Within the book, love is a strong theme. Candide shows his love for Cunegonde by commiting many crimes. The main crime he has committed was murdering multiple people. It may not be a crime but to pronounce his love, Candide abandoned the paradise of El Dorado and escaped execution.
Candide has done many things for Cunegonde because he loves her. He has gone to many places in hoping to find the lady. When he finally finds the girl, he is told that she has lost her great looks but he still remains loyal to his love for her and still marry her. He has risked alot for cunegonde. Even if he is unsatisfied of her physical appearance. Candide probably loves the girl for her and not her appearance.
